Agroecology & Food Sovereignty
Agroecology is an approach that applies both ecological and social concepts and principles to the design and management of sustainable food and farming systems.
The objectives of our agroecological projects are to generate quality food, increase biodiversity, improve soil quality, and produce and harvest native seeds. Using regenerative practices, 32V promotes the production of nutritious and healthy food and encourages healthy eating habits in populations at high risk of malnutrition.
Families that participate in the 32V health programs, Scholarship Program, and the Family Support Center often engage in the agroecological projects. Many of these families face extreme poverty, domestic and gender violence, and family disintegration and loss of land due to migration.
Food generated in raised-bed gardens and oyster mushroom modules transforms a portion of the crops produced by the families into culturally-relevant food and allows them to harvest seeds for future growing seasons.
