About

Theory and Practice: 32 Volcanes Service Learning Program

The 32 Volcanes Service Learning Program is an exchange program—an exchange of knowledge, ideas, and cultures. It is an opportunity to listen, learn, and share. The interdisciplinary team at 32 Volcanes will share our regenerative development philosophy and promote equity and justice.

Areas of Focus

All 32 Volcanes interns and volunteers are encouraged to participate in a variety of areas. The ejes/axes from which our work flows include:

● Food sovereignty

● Health, including a primary care clinic, chronic patient care with a mobile clinic to a rural community, and the Nutrition Program in various rural communities.

● Education, including the Scholarship Program in various rural communities and the Family Support Center in Llanos del Pinal

● Agroecology, including community and family vegetable and medicinal plant gardens, reforestation, and mushroom modules in various rural communities.

● Culture, including the Mario Payeras Library and a cultural events calendar

● We also welcome fundraising support and fresh ideas!

All service learning options include:

● Pre-trip orientation and assistance

● Connections to housing options in Xela (hostels, homestays with a local family, or furnished apartments)

● The Pertinencia Cultural Lecture Series (cultural relevance and safety)

● Professional experience in our regenerative projects

● Training and education in the specific areas in which we work (los ejes)

● Cultural Events and exchange

● Healthy lunches and snacks Monday-Friday

● Transportation to our various community work sites

● Access to healthcare via the 32 Volcanes Clinic

● Use of our kitchen and library

● Guided visits to culturally significant sites

● Community co-existence

● A recommendation letter upon completion of a successful volunteership, internship, or rotation.

We strongly encourage all individual volunteers and interns to begin on the first Monday of the month, if possible.
